To give a flavour of the type and range of research projects we undertake, this page offers some short summaries of some recent projects.
LGBT+ Health Needs Assessment: In 2019, Traci was commissioned by NHS Lothian and NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde to undertake a literature review, and a large scale qualitative research exercise to explore health and wellbeing inequalities and identify associated needs for LGBT+ people. Traci’s report on the findings can be found here . Traci also conducted follow-up research in 2020 to explore the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on LGBT+ people, which can be found here.
Glasgow City Schools Health and Wellbeing Surveys: Traci conducted the analysis and reporting of all four sweeps of this survey across all of Glasgow’s secondary schools between 2006 and 2020. These surveys explore trends for a wide range of health and wellbeing indicators. An example of these reports can be found here.
East Dunbartonshire Breastfeeding Partnership Project: In 2022-23, Traci undertook an evaluation of a model of breastfeeding support for women in the most deprived areas in East Dunbartonshire to explore whether the model had direct impact on initiation and continuation of breastfeeding. The evaluation included analysis of project records and interviews with NHS staff and mothers who had been offered support.
'Control It Plus' Diabetes Programme Evaluation: In 2022-23, Traci undertook an evaluation of the 'Control It Plus' Type 2 diabetes education programme and referral pathway which has been rolled out across NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde. This involved interviews with patients referred to the programme and staff involved in referring, administering and delivering education, physical activity and weight management interventions. The evaluation explored the reasons for non-engagement and attrition, patient experience and satisfaction, and the impacts of engagement including highlighting illustrative experiences with particularly positive impacts.
Scoping of Sexual Health and HIV Prevention Resources for Adults: In 2022, Traci was commissioned by the Sandyford specialist sexual health service to undertake a scoping of resources, learning materials and training provided by organisations and stakeholders across the wider sexual health agenda for adults in Scotland. The method comprised desk research and consultations with stakeholders and partners across Scotland.
West Dunbartonshire Strategic Needs Assessment of Adults and Older People 2022: Traci was commissioned by West Dunbartonshire Health & Social Care Partnership to prepare a visual infographic summary report of a comprehensive strategic needs assessment. This can be seen here.
Glasgow City Cancer Screening Video/Animations Process Evaluation: In 2022, Traci undertook a process evaluation of cancer screening video animations aimed at BAME communities. The aim was to evaluate whether targeted BAME communities were able to access the video/animations and their messages. The evaluation included identifying barriers and opportunities for sharing the videos, and a number of unintended outcomes were highlighted in the course of the evaluation. Traci's report made recommendations to assist future dissemination of the videos.
Needs Assessment with Staff Supporting Relationships and Sexual Health for People with Learning Disabilities : In 2021, Traci conducted this needs assessment which involved engaging with staff across the NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde area who work directly with adults with learning disabilities to assess their levels of knowledge and confidence in discussing and responding to sexuality, sexual health and relationships for adults with learning disabilities, and seek the views of staff on how best to improve service delivery on this topic. This included interview and group discussions with 62 staff members across health, social work and third sector providers. The report can be seen here.
Scoping of Breastfeeding Support Needs for Polish and South Asian Communities: In 2020, Traci produced a report on the results of qualitative engagement with families in the South Asian and Polish communities in Glasgow exploring barriers and facilitators to breastfeeding. Her report included actionable recommendations to support these communities. The report can be found here. Smoking Cessation Service User Evaluation: In 2017-2018, Traci conducted this service user evaluation to test the community asset building approach in Possilpark and surrounding areas to smoking cessation service provision. This involved qualitative interviews with service users. The project involved exploring influences at each stage of the quit attempt journey. Community influences were evident and important motivators at each stage. The findings report is here.
HIV Anti Stigma Staff Campaign Project: In 2017, Traci conducted research to explore the processes and impact of an HIV anti stigma campaign aimed at NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde staff. The findings are reported here.
Western Baths Members Survey: In 2017, Traci conducted a survey of members of the Western Baths to inform future development of the club. The findings are reported here.
